Austin Okpara, Others Mark 10th Late Ex-Lawmaker’s Memorial Anniversary

It was celebration galore in the Okpara-eli family in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA) as the children rolled out the drums to celebrate the 10th memorial Anniversary of their late father and former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Eze (Hon.) Chinyere A. Victor Amadi – Okparaeli last Sunday.
The memorial service which took place at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Diobu, Port Harcourt attracted personalities from all walks of life, including prominent politicians like the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatiatives, Rt. Hon. Austin Okpara.
Others are former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Rivers State, Hon. Worgu Boms, former Mayor of Port Harcourt, Hon. Chimbiko Akarolo, former Chief of Staff, Chief (Barr.) Emeh Glory Emeh, Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Amnesty, Hon. Ken Chinda among other dignitaries.
In his sermon titled “This World not an abiding place”, the Vicar of St. Thomas Anglican Church Diobu Port Harcourt, Ven. Richard N. Okpara noted that the late Victor Amadi Okparaeli was a rare gem whose activities and contributions to the society remain a legacy for generations to come.
He urged parents to learn from the former life and times of the departed lawmaker, Eze (Hon.) Chinyere, Victor Amadi-Okparaeli by leaving behind befitting legacies for their children to emulate. He also called on their children not to destroy the legacies of their fathers.
The Vicar commended the children of the deceased for keeping the memories of their late father alive and stressed the need for continuous peace and unity in the family as a house divided amongst itself cannot stand. He also noted that there is strength in unity.
In his speech at the occasion, one of the sons who signed the Anniversary programme, Chief (Hon.) Chinyerum E. Amadi Okparaeli described his father as a dogged fighter whose memories will be kept alive by the family.
While the first daughter of the deceased (Barr. (Mrs) Ovuchi Ngozi Nsiegbe said that the death of their father had created a big vacuum in the family.
