The Rivers State Government says it is seeking for a reduction in the cut-off marks for students of the state seeking admission into the in-house training in local Government and Public Administrations at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).
The Commissioner incharge of Education and Training in the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Jonah Tamuno said this in an interview with newsmen during a meeting of Chairmen, Commissioners, Secretaries and Training Officers in the University of Nigeria Nsukka catchment States in Port Harcourt.
Chief Tamuno said that the state was seeking for a reduction in cut-off marks to enable more students from the state to benefit from the programme.
He said that the programme has helped a number of Staff of the local Government Service Commission to improve not only their level of productivity, but also their educational opportunities.
Declaring the meeting open the Chairman of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Nnamdi Wokokoro had said that the Commission would do everything possible to assist the University, particularly the department of Local Government and Public Administration.
Chief Wokokoro said that the support was to encourage the University in its effort to train more Staff of the Commission.
Meanwhile the Head of Department Public Administration and Local Government, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) Dr. (Mrs) Sylva U. Agu has commended Rivers State for being in the forefront in the pregramme among the ten catchment states.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. (Mrs) Agu also said that Rivers State was taking the lead as far as the training was concerned.
She also said that the Department has also written to the School Authority to seek for a reduction in the cut-off marks.
