A second class
tradaitional ruler in Rivers State and Okan-Ama of Ngo Uboon (Dr) U.U Ngere has, attributed the rising cases of youth restiveness in the society to the abandonment of family values.
Uboon Ngere who said this in an interview with The Tide shortly after his investiture as the Father of the year by St. Barnabas Anglican Church Ngo, during its father’s day celebration, said that most fathers have abandoned their fatherly responsibilities to their children.
The traditional ruler said that this ugly situation has led many youths away from the norms of the society.
He commended the church for instituting the annual fathers’ day celebration, noting that it would go along way to remind fathers of their role to both their individual families and the wider society.
Uboon Ngere also commended St Barnabars Anglican Church Ngo for choosing him as the Father of the Year 2014 and urged them to furnish him with the problems of the church, promising to assist them.
Also speaking, the Secretary-General, Men Christian Association (MCA) Diocese of Niger Delta, Hon Awajiokan Nelson, said that the theme of the celebration which is “Arise and Build,” is to remind the men-folk of the need for them not to shy away from their responsibilities, stressing that as fathers, it behoves on them to provide leadership to their respective households.
He also said that the Diocese is now focusing on evangelism with a view to winning more souls for Christ.
Earlier, the vicar of the church Reverend Apostles I. Ene-Nte urged the men of the church to rise up and build the church and their community.
He said that Uboon Ngere was selected based on hiscontributions to the church.
