The Bishop, Diocese of Niger Delta, Rt Rev Ralph Ebirien has decried the rising level of insecurity in the country.
Ebirien who said this at the 2nd session of the 23rd Synod of the Diocese at Krakrama in the Asari Toru Local Government Area said that the situation in the North East is a threat to the peace and stability of the entire country.
Meanwhile, Rt Rev Ebirien has called on loosers of the just concluded gubernatorial election in Rivers State to accept their defeat in good faith.
The Bishop said that the victory of Governor Wike in the election is not only for the Governor but for the entire state, stressing that those who lost should accept their defeat in good faith.
The cleric also stressed the need for the Governor to revisit some abandoned projects in the state for the glory of the state and the joy of the people of Rivers State and listed some of these projects to include, the Airport Hotel Omagwa and the Songhai Farm.
He said that these facilities should be revived to create employment opportunities for the unemployed youths of the state.
Rt Rev Ebirien also condemned the rising level of kidnappings, cult activities, armed robbery and other forms of criminalities stressing that the Federal Government must step up effort to check these menace.
The cleric also decried the rising level of corruption in the country.
“Corruption is a menace in the nation. This is a deadly sickness in the nation. We appeal to every Nigerian to look forward and join in the war against corruption.
“One of the ways to fight corruption is change of attitude. Let us Nigerians change our attitude for the better,” he said.
Ebirien also stressed the need for the Federal Government to address the issue of unemployment in the country adding that the Federal Government should create job opportunities for the youths to help reduce unemployment in the country.
He called for more attention to education and Agriculture with the view to providing sufficient food for the nation.
Ebirien said that the theme of the Synod which is “earnestly contend for the faith” was a clarion call to all Christians to guide their faith jealously.
