The Rivers State Sanitation Volunteer Marshalls have welcomed the move by the Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Hon. Victor Ihunwo to rid the city and its environs of all forms of street trading.
The coordinator of the organization, Prince Sodin Akiagbo who said this in a telephone interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt said that the proliferation of illegal trading posts across the city is constituting an eyesore.
Akiagbo further said that the situation is capable of turning Port Harcourt into a garbage city, if nothing is done about it as these traders throw refuse indiscriminately into the streets.
He also stressed the need for the authorities to beam its searchlight on motorparks as illegal motorparks are springing up every where in the city.
Meanwhile, Prince Sodin Akiagba has said that the Rivers State Sanitation Volunteers Marshalls will not relent in their effort in ensuring cleanliness in all markets and motorparks across the State.
He said that the organization is partnering with the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) to ensure the realization of this goal.
He further said that the exercise which has commenced at the Mile III market and Motorpark will be taken round the entire state.
According to him, the programme is to inculcate the culture of cleanliness among traders and users of motoparks in the State.
