A-G Charges Directors On Financial Management, ICT

The Rivers State Accountant General, Sir Dagogo Abere, has tasked directors in the State Civil Service to design programmes that would launch their Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) into the State Integrated Financial Management Information System (SIFMIS).
Sir Abere said this in Port Harcourt while declaring open a workshop in SIFMIS organised by the Ministry of Finance in conjunction with the State Employment And Expenditure for Results (SEEFOR) project for Directors in the State.
Sir Abere said that over 20 Ministries, Departments and Agencies would be hooked to the system by 2018, stressing that the situation has underscored the Directors to prepare their MDAs for it.
According to him, part of the preparations will involve building their own capacities as well as that of their staff in computer and internet appreciation.
Sir Abere said that the SIFMIS is a World Bank programme designed to improve efficiency in the service, stressing that it would lead to accountability in revenue generations and expenditure as well as lead to greater information sharing among the various MDAs, adding that the success of the programme depends on the competencies of managers of the various MDAs.
Also speaking, the project coordinator of the State Employment And Expenditure For Results (SEEFOR) projects, Mr. Precious Amos explained that SEEFOR was introduced by the World Bank to curb the rising spate of youth unemployment in the Niger Delta through the training of youths in skill acquisition.
Mr. Amos said that SIFMIS was a competent of the programme that will enhance greater accountability and reliability as well as transparency on all government financial activities.
He noted that the process requires the attention of everybody to succeed.
