A former federal lawmaker in the First Republic, Late Hon. Josiah Azariah Jamabo, was among other distinguished Rivers sons conferred with the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS) Award by Governor Nyesom Wike.
Late Hon. Josiah Azariah Jamabo, was also a Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Labour, during the First Republic.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased elder statesman has commended Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for considering their late father for the post-humous award.
A release by the family signed by Chief Azubo Josiah Jamabo, described the late Josiah Azariah Jamabo as an astute politician who was in the fore- front during the struggle for the creation of Rivers State.
According to the statement, the late elder statesman was not only the financier and general-secretary of the Niger Delta Congress (NDC), but also worked closely with late Chief Harold Dappa Biriye to champion the creation of Rivers State.
It further listed other positions held by the deceased during his lifetime to include member, Industrial Arbitration Tribunal which adjudicated in disputes between employees and employers in the country and Chairman, Teaching Commission of Rivers State.
The rest are chairman, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Eastern Region, member, Reorganized Okrika native Authority Council and member, Degema Provincial Assembly, among others.
The family said that Governor Wike has set a worthy example that must be emulated by future leaderships of the state.
They also promised to sustain the good legacy of their late father.
