The Rivers State
Government says it is committed to improving the quality of education in the rural areas.
The Commissioner in charge of supervision, Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, Hon Kio Tams said this while commissioning a new State Nursery and Primary School at Elele estate in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Hon. Kio Tams who said that quality education was key to nation-building added that the administration of Governor Nyesom Wike, was determined to provide quality and affordable education for the people of the state.
He said that, with the commissioning ceremony, children in the estate would have easy access to the school and commended stakeholders in the area for making the vision a reality.
The Commissioner also warned against vandalisation of the school’s property, adding that truancy and indiscipline in any form would no longer be condoned.
Kio Tams further advised stakeholders in the estate to join hands with the authority to ensure that the policy thrust of the state government in the education sector was realised.
Also speaking, the Estate Manager, Mr Israel Okoh said that the school would improve knowledge and education opportunities in the area.
He also said that it would reduce the suffering of children as they would no longer trek long distances to school and pledged the continued support of the residents to the state government.
