Church Donates Blood To Military Hospital, Port Harcourt

Over 500 members of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Port Harcourt,  have embarked on free blood donation exercise to the Military Hospital,  Port Harcourt.
The President, Port Harcourt East Stake Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint, Mr. Wariboko T. Malvin said that the exercise which is under the auspices of the Mormon Helping Hands, an organisation within the church, is an annual event that has been on for over ten years.
Mr. Melvin said that, within the last ten years, the church has embarked on series of humanitarian activities to improve the conditions of people living within its catchment areas.
According to him, the free blood donation exercise was part of the Africa West project for 2016.
He said that the Church has carried out series of empowerment programme for both its members and the general public.
The programmes he said, include training of members on job creation as well as how to pass job interviews.
Mr. Malvin further said that orientation programmes have been organised for the youths, while families have been lectured on ways of grooming their children and wards to be better citizens of the country.
Also speaking the care manager, Military Hospital, Port Harcourt, Major Jacinta O. Amadi commended the Church for the gesture, stressing that by so doing, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint is helping to improve the National Blood Bank, Major Amadi also called on other faith-based organisations to come forward and donate blood to save lives.
She said that access to the blood bank at the hospital is now reduced to two thousand naira and urged the public to avail themselves of the opportunity.
