The Rivers State
House of Assembly has pledged to give legislative approvals to all issues relating to sanitation in the state .
The chairman of the House Committee on Environment, Hon. Christian Ahiakwo who said this during the just concluded monthly environment sanitation exercise in the state said that the assembly would collaborate with the Ministry of Environment to give legal backing to all issues relating to sanitation.
Hon Ahiakwo who represents Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Constituency 1, also called on the people not to see last Saturday’s of every month only, as sanitation days stressing that cleaning of the environment must be a daily affair.
He also said that sanitation must not be left to government alone and commended the Ministry of Environment for ensuring regular enforcement of the exercise across the state.
Also speaking, the state Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Mr Oliver Wollugbom urged for attitude change especially in the areas of cleanliness.
He said that until people began to see cleanliness as a part of their lives, sanitation would continue to remain a problem.
A trader at Rumuodomaya market, Madam Loveth Ezekwem said that the women need shovels and wheel barrows to help in the evacuation of dirts from the market.
