Over 500 staff of Integrated Logistics Services Limited (Intels) in the Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone has been sacked by the management.
Sources within the company informed The Tide that most of the affected staff were in the junior cadre of the company’s employment.
The source also confided in The Tide that the management of the company may issue more sack letters in the next one week.
The Tide also learnt that most staff of the company especially those in the junior cadre are already jittery over the situation.
A junior staff of the company, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said that there are rumours that another batch of 500 staff may be sacked next week.
“There is rumour going round the company that another batch of 500 workers will be sacked next week.
‘We are also praying that the management will rescind its decision”, he said.
Another junior staff that was affected in the exercise said that the situation was bound to bring hardship not only to him, but to all those affected.
He called for government intervention to call the company to order.
Also speaking in a telephone interview with The Tide a management staff of the company who craved anonymity confirmed the incident, but said that it was a result of the economic hardship in the country.
He said that those laid off were only asked to standby pending when things would improve and added that the development was not a witch-hunting exercise.
