The concerned chiefs and people of Opobo and Nkoro Ijaws in Rivers state, have advised their Okrika neighbours not to allow their land to be plunged into another round of political crisis as previous ones had not done the area any good.
A statement made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt and jointly signed by Alabo Prof. Dagogo Fubara, Prof. Seth Accra -Jaja, and eight others, also described as provocative, the attacks on the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside and other members of the campaign train on the 17th of February 2015 at Okrika.
They noted that the development, if not checked, could undermine the centuries’ old relationship between the Opobo-Ibani (Ijaw) and their Okrika (Ijaw) brothers.
“These provocative attacks and despicable acts against Dakuku Peterside and the APC are the handiwork of misguided elements that are unmindful of the consequences of their acts.
“This situation, if not checked, could encourage mischief makers to undermine the centuries old cordial relationship between Wakirike-Ijaw, Opobo (Ijaw) and Nkoro – Ijaw, which is cherished by these great clans of Rivers state”, it said.
While describing both Okrika, Opobo, Nkoro as great ancient Ijaw cleans that shall continue to co-exist in peace and love undistracted, it, however, cautioned the Ijaw nation against allowing the antics of few dishonest politicians to distract us from addressing the fundamental challenges that confront Ijaw land.
