Police Debunk Bomb Scare Rumour In Bundu

The Rivers State Police Command has debunked rumours of an alleged attempt to bomb Bundu Ama area of Port Harcourt, yesterday.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr. Ahmed Mohammed said in a text message sent to The Tide that, the incident that occurred in the area, was not a bomb scare, but an altercations between two persons that was misconstrued to by bystanders stressing that order has been restored to the area.
Speaking to newsmen, the Chairman of Community Development Committee, (CDC) Bundu Ama, Mr. Benneth Belema also debunked the rumour, stressing that the substance suspected to be a bomb was rather a charm being hidden by a man before he entered the Mosque.
Belema said that after being informed that a man was spotted burying a substance behind a mosque in the area, he and some elders investigated and discovered that the suspected substance was a charm, not a bomb.
He regretted the damages caused to the mosque by some youths and commended the Police for their prompt response which brought the situation under control.
Also speaking, a woman who gave her name as Alhaja Ayo told The Tide that, there was no bomb in the Mosque.
She said that, she was inside the Mosque praying when some youths invaded the place and destroyed parts of the Mosque.
The Tide learnt that the incident was triggered off when a resident raised an alarm after spotting a resident of Northern extraction burying a substance behind the Mosque.
This situation The Tide learnt, not only created pandemonium, but infuriated some youths who allegedly pounced on the man.
The situation was however brought under control by the quick intervention of men from the Central Police Station (CPS), Port Harcourt.
