The Eastern Zonal Chair
man of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Mr Peter Igbifaa has identified lack of good water transportation as a major challenge facing the zone.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after a retreat in Port Harcourt, Mr Igbifaa also said that most communities in the zone have been cut off from the rest of the state as a result of poor water transportation.
He said that the Ijaw Youth Council Eastern zone is planning to purchase speed boats to all communities in the zone to enable commutate with each other.
The IYC chairman also said that the retreat was organised with the aim of fashioning a blueprint for the Eastern zone of the council.
Mr Igbifaa said that the blueprint will address the problems of poverty that is prevalent in the zone.
Also speaking, the General Secretary of the Ijaw Youth Council, Mr Bristol Emmanuel said that the Eastern zone must no longer play a second fiddle in the politics of the IYC.
According to him, the zone must seek for solution to its own problem without looking for outside support.
Mr Emmanuel also urged for the need for capacity building in the zone, stressing that youths must be properly equipped to enable them participate in the oil and gas activities in the zone.
