NULGE Wants Reintroduction Of ASCON Staff Training

The National Union of Lo
cal Government Employees (NULGE) has called for the reintroduction of the training of local government staff at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) and other training institutions in the country.
The state president of the union, Barrister Franklyn Ajunwo who said this during a courtesy call on the new chairman of the Rivers State Local Government Ser vice Commission, Chief Nnamdi Wokekoro, also frowned at the non-implementation of the N18,000 minimum wage arrears by some local government councils in the state.
The state Nulge President urged the commission chairman to approve the promotion exercise for staff   planned for take off last month.
Ajunwo urged the chairman to avoid pressures to remove principal staff of the commission without cogent reason and pledged the support and cooperation of the union.
Earlier, the chairman of the Rivers State Local Government Service commission Chief Nnamdi Wokekoro said that the commission under his leadership will pursue an open door policy for the effective administration of the local government system.
Wokekoro said the era of doing things haphazardly were over, noting that posting of principal staff of the third tier government would be done transparently .
He reassured the union that no staff would be punished on account of carrying out his legitimate duties.
According to him the commission would give more attention to consultation with relevant stakeholders and urged the union to shelf its planned strike as the commission is looking into its grievances.
