RSG To Standardise Hospital Operations

Government is set to standardise the operations of all government owned hospitals and clinics in the state.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Sampson Parker who disclosed this at the 3rd World WONCA Family Doctors Day celebration in Port Harcourt, said that a circular barring government doctors from operating private clinics would soon be issued?
Parker who was represented by the permanent secretary state Ministry of Health, Dr Somiari Isaac Harry said that the present administration in the state had taken far reaching steps to improve the health sector.
He said that more than 112 health centres had been built in all the local government areas, while four new zonal hospitals are being constructed.
The commissioner also said that more than 200 doctors has been employed, while the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital (BMSH) is receiving further attention by the State government.
He described the role of family as very crucial and pledged government support.
Also speaking, the National President of Family Physicians of Nigeria, Dr Paul Dienye said that the World Organisation of National Colleges of Academics (WONCA) was made up of various bodies offering medical services to diverse patients across the globe.
Dienye also said that the United Nations Health Assembly had recognised the importance of Family Doctors in the healthcare need of the people.
He noted that the tremendous work of Family Doctors had gone a long way in reducing mortality and urged the government to improve the condition of family doctors and physicians in health institution.
