Group Threatens Attack On Sand Dredgers In Etche

eration Congress, a socio-cultural organization in Etche land has renewed its 90 days ultimatum to sand dredgers to leave the area or face the wrath of the people.
National president of the congress, Mr Japhet Ogbueri, who disclosed this in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, said that the people will resort to jungle justice, if the ultimatum is not heeded to.
Mr Ogbueri said that the threat by the people of Etche was inline with the fundamental rights of the people as guaranteed by the constitution.
He said that communities such as, Chokocho, Igbo Etche, Umuanyanagu and others have had their environment devastated because of sand dredging, stressing that the people would no longer fold their hands and watch a few richmen devastate their environment.
Mr Ogbueri emphasised that dredging activities is affecting the Chokocho Igwuruta road as well as other roads in the area.
According to him, a petition to this effect has been sent to the state Commissioner of Police as well as the National Environmental Standard Regulation Agency (NESREA) calling their attention to the issue.
Also petitioned, are; the state Commissioner for Environment and has Energy / National Resources counterparts and other relevant government agencies.
