The Rivers State Chapter of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), has commended Governor Chief Nyesom Wike for giving the highest allocation to agriculture in the country.
Chairman of the association, Comrade Ofimaobari Igwe who said this in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt said Rivers State was the only state with the highest allocations to agriculture in the whole country.
Igwe said the situation was
indication of Chief Wike’s commitment to give agriculture its pride of place in the scheme of things.
The AFAN chairman also said Rivers Farmers were happy with the ongoing renovations of Moribund Farm Estates and facilities by the present administration.
“I want to commend Governor Wike for putting the interest of Rivers people above other interests.
“Before now Agriculture was not given serious attention in the state” he said.
Igwe also said the agricultural development programme of the state was helping to diversify the economy of the state from oil, thereby ensuring food sustainability for the state and creation of employment opportunities.
He also said the “Back To Farm” jingle of the government had boosted the state secretariat for registration forms.

The AFAN chairman, however, urged the government to focus on cassava, plantain, fish and rice productions as the state had comparative advantage in these areas.
Igwe also urged for the provision of grants to farmers in the state to enable them participate actively in the programme.
